What Supported Independent Living means for you

At Home Carer's Alliance, we talk a lot about Supported Independent Living because it sits at the heart of what we do.

Our dedicated team celebrates wins and everyday achievements that show exactly what SIL can look like in real life. We see confidence growing, skills developing and people feeling proud of what they can achieve in their own homes.

If you’re wondering what SIL with HCA looks like, we’re here to break it down. We’ll explore how SIL works, how support is delivered and how we empower participants who want more independence, comfort and confidence in daily life.

What is Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living is daily personalised support for people who want to live in a home environment with help that suits their individual needs.

SIL is about offering the right level of support so participants can do more for themselves, build new skills at their own pace and live the way they choose.

Our goal is to create an environment where each person feels capable, respected and empowered in their daily routines.

Whether we are sharing a resident learning new skills in their kitchen, settling into a new home or taking part in community activities, those moments are exactly what SIL is designed to enable.

How SIL works in a Home Carer's Alliance property

Across our modern, comfortable and accessible homes, from purpose-built SIL properties to SDA-friendly designs, each space is thoughtfully created to support safe, supported living and meet the needs of the people who call it home.

No matter the layout or location, our homes all have one thing in common: they give people a stable base where support can be delivered smoothly and respectfully.

We work closely with residents and their families to ensure support is shaped around the individual and delivered within a stable, welcoming environment where our team can provide high-quality care smoothly, respectfully and with the person always at the centre.

What We Do

Why SIL matters

People thrive when they feel safe, supported and understood. SIL makes that possible by combining quality housing with the right level of care from qualified, compassionate staff who genuinely care about the well-being and independence of each participant.

For participants, SIL means learning new skills, strengthening daily routines and having reliable support to maintain health, wellbeing and community connections.

It gives people the freedom to grow, try new things, build relationships and take steps forward with confidence.

SIL looks different for everyone because every person’s goals and abilities are different. But the goal is always the same: to enable participants to live their lives their way.

Looking ahead

As the end of the year approaches, our focus remains on real outcomes, real independence and real support for our HCA community. We are continuing to grow our range of properties, expand our services, and celebrate the progress of all our participants.
